Kouris Dam, Cyprus

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

Kouris Dam is the largest of the 180 Cyprus dams. Dams here on Cyprus are very important for the people living here, not only because they need them to survive but they are also a recreational place to visit. A few days ago the Kouris Dam, the largest of the 180 Cyprus dams, overflowed for the second time in it’s 24 year old history. Kouris Dam has a height of 110 meters, a surface area of 3.6 km3 and a capacity of 115 MCM (115 000 km3), which is about 35% of the total capacity of all the dams on Cyprus together.

For scuba diving enthusiasts Kouris Dam also has a submerged church that is possible to dive into when the water level is high enough.

To see a list of all the dams in Cyprus, current water level of each dam and more statistics, visit this link

Or for more information about when and how each dam were build, visit this link

As you can see on the first link, this year the inflow of water is already the highest since the last 10 years with a record high peak in January 2012.

Ayia Napa pictures

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

While a friend came to Cyprus to visit me we took a road trip to Ayia Napa for two days. Ayia Napa is a more touristic city then Limassol where I am currently living, but with a really nice beach and harbor.

Here are the few pictures I took from the trip to Ayia Napa:

Linopetra Saturday market, Limassol (Cyprus)

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

Linopetra Saturday market is a car boot sale that is open on Saturdays between 8 – 13 o’clock. It is located on a car parking area near Ajax Hotel and Esso gas station, on the east exit of Limassol towards Larnaca. A part of the area is still used as a free car park during the market which makes it even more accessible.

The Linopetra market offers cheap vegetables & fruits, clothes, perfume, music & movies, electrical tools, antiques as well as some market food and drinks.

If you have things that you want to sell on the Linopetra market, call Jimmy on 996 128 32 for more information.

Cyprus graffiti

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

Here are some of the Cyprus graffiti that I have captured during the last two weeks here. The Cyprus graffiti scene is rather small and in general graffiti stencils is the most used art form here, but there are definitely some areas in a few cities which are like street art galleries.

Below is part 1 out of 2 with street art / graffiti in Cyprus.

Cyprus pictures

Monday, March 19th, 2012

I recently rented a car here on Cyprus and did a road trip with a friend to explore the island. Cyprus is very small and it takes about 4 hours to cross the island with a car, so during the 3 days we were on the road we saw most of the country. The views here are very varied with coastline, mountains, small villages, medieval ruins and big national parks. Here are some of the pictures of Cyprus from this trip:
